Things I Know that I Miss About Home

We’ve been in Chennai, India for four months now and we only have one more to go thanks to a shortened assignment or some reason – don’t care why, just happy to be leaving early.

I miss a lot of things about home. Here is my list:

  • My oven – and everything I cook in it
  • The ability to jump in the car and go wherever I want
  • The ability to say something once and be understood
  • The variety and quality of fruits and vegetables in the supermarket
ugly lettuce
  • Wearing a woollen skirt,   coat, scarf and black boots
  • People leaving my kids alone and not pinching their cheeks
  • Doing my own vacuuming. (I never thought I’d miss that)
  • My friends
  • Playgrounds with shade sails or trees.
  • Recycling
  • Brushing my teeth with tap water
  • Washing my dishes in water that doesn’t smell horrid.
  • Power cuts being unusual
  • Footpaths without piss or rubbish on them

Typical footpath rubbish in Chennai

So yeah. Just a few things I miss about home. Thirty-four days to go. tick. tock.

Oh, wow! Only 34 days? I hope you’re crossing them off on your calendar with a thick black pen?

My sister told me how when she was living in Rishikesh, the power was regularly cut for at least a couple of hours a day in the mornings. Which also meant no running water, as the water pump used electricity. Not a fantastic lifestyle for a family…

Thank you for linking up this week :-)

luckily ours doesn’t go out for that long. Just a few minutes four or five times a day. Some other people here go for up to 14 hours without power. There was a huge protest about it. apparently.

It has been challenging. But I’m not sorry we did it. It has taught me a lot about myself. Mainly that I’m a princess and like clean footpaths.

Well I could never have done that journey so good for you. But, despite some of the really great experiences (not of the stuff on the footpath kind) I am betting you’d be willing to exchange them for a flight home now.
Looking forward to hearing you have landed back where you can wear a warm coat again.

the experience has been challenging and character building. We are going to the airport tonight for a weekend in Sri Lanka – (yay!) But I wish it was to Australia – not for a weekend though – crikey it takes that long to get there!

Not long now! I was wondering when you were heading home.

I’m going to count down with you. But I’m not saying the days out loud, it’ll only make it go longer for you!!

Holy cow Toushka it sounds like you are going to appreciate everything so much when you get back to Australia. I don’t blame you as I don’t think I would do very well in India either as I love Australia’s way of life. I can’t believe you will be home in 34days! Have a good weekend in Sri Lanka and hope to see you when you return home. xx
